💥 How US Hegemony & Propaganda Prevents China-Taiwan Peace | Michael Riches

The Republic of China (the government of the Taiwanese islands) and the People's Republic of China (the government of mainland China) have been locked into an unresolved conflict dating back to the Second World War. While mainstream media in the Collective West tries to make you believe that this is a story of "evil autocratic China" trying to gobble up "innocent democratic Taiwan", the reality is of course much more complex. But nuances are something that US hegemony tries to actively conceal from public discourse as it would only counteract its war aims.

The US also has a long history of meddling in Taiwanese affairs and provocations toward Beijing that, were they done toward Washington, would have long since resulted in the US going to war. Just imagine for one second Chinese officials visiting Puerto Rico to support local independence movements. But as always it's not the act that matters to the "Rules Based Order" but who commits them.

Today my guest is a long-term observer of the conflict between Taipei and Beijing. I've got with me Michael Riches, a Canadian colleague whose been living in Taipei for 8 years and is currently teaching English at the University there.

Michael used to work at the Taipei Times, the de facto state newspaper of the Republic of China.
