In den darauffolgenden Jahren wurden von Maria Theresia einige Änderungen für die Erblande in Österreich und Böhmen durchgeführt:
Der ungarische Adel, der Maria Theresia im Machtkampf am Beginn ihrer Herrschaft unterstützt hatte, behielt seine Privilegien. Es entstand somit ein österreichisch-ungarischer Dualismus.
Unter Maria Theresia begann man, die damals sehr dünn besiedelten Gebiete in Galizien und Lodomerien, dem Banat und Siebenbürgen zu besiedeln. Die prägendste Einwanderergruppe waren die Donauschwaben. Diese Siedlungspolitik wurde bis zum Zerfall der Monarchie weitergeführt und führte unter anderem auch zur Ansiedlung von Juden in der Bukowina, die im späten 19. Jahrhundert die dortige Kultur stark prägten.
